Sinds 2002 werkt ze als algemeen/vaatchirurg in het <a href="http://www.soz.nl/">Oosterschelde Ziekenhuis</a>, SOZ, met locaties in Goes en Zierikzee.<br>
Op 12 November 2004 is zij gepromoveerd tot <a href="../thesis/flip.htm">doctor in de geneeskunde</a> aan de Vrije Universiteit op "The Pathophysiology of colon ischemia after surgery for abdominal aortic aneurysms".<br>
Zij slaagde cum laude voor haar middelbare school. Bij het landelijke toelatings/selectie examen voor de universiteit behaalde zij de hoogste score van alle kandidaten uit heel het land.
Tussen 1984 en 1990, studeerde ze aan de <a href="http://www.hacettepe.edu.tr">Hacettepe University</a>, Faculteit Geneeskunde in Ankara. Na haar artsexamen heeft ze een lokaal medisch centrum opgezet in een dorp (<a href="http://saglik.sakarya.gov.tr/sim_sag_kurum.htm">Mekece/Adapazari</a>) en daar als dokter gewerkt.<br>
In 1991 verhuisde ze naar Nederland en kwam haar jeugddroom om chirurg te worden dichterbij toen ze startte als AGNIO (Assistent Geneeskundige Niet In Opleiding) in het <a href="http://www.erasmusmc.nl/">Universiteits Medisch Centrum Rotterdam/Dijkzigt/Erasmus</a> (afdelingshoofd prof.dr. J. Jeekel). Daarna heeft ze nog twee jaar ervaring opgedaan in de algemene chirurgie in <a href="http://www.vumc.nl/">VU Medisch Centrum</a> te Amsterdam (afdelingshoofd prof.dr. R. Wesdorp) alwaar ze zich verdiepte in onderzoeksprojecten van de afdeling vaatchirurgie onder supervisie van prof.dr. J. Rauwerda. Toen ontdekte ze de fascinerende aspecten van de vaatchirurgie zowel in de dagelijkse praktijk als binnen de wetenschap.<br>
Ze begon met haar opleiding in de algemene chirurgie in 1995 in het <a href="http://www.kg.nl/">Kennemer Gasthuis</a> te Haarlem (afdelingshoofd dr. A. Koomen), hetgeen werd vervolgd in het VU Medisch Centrum te Amsterdam (afdelingshoofd prof.dr. H. Haarman) en werd gecompleteerd in het <a href="http://catharina.ziekenhuis.nl/">Catharina Ziekenhuis</a> te Eindhoven (afdelingshoofd dr. J. Jackimowicz).<br>
In 2001 werd ze ingeschreven in het <a href="http://www.bigregister.nl/"><i>BIG</i> register</a> als algemeen chirurg</a>.<br>
Hierna volgde ze een CHIVO (Chirurgische Vervolg Opleiding) in vaatchirurgie (afdelingshoofd dr. J. Buth) in het zelfde ziekenhuis. In 2002, kort nadat ze werd ingeschreven in het Nederlands specialistenregister als vaatchirurg, behaalde ze (eveneens cum laude) haar Europese registratie bij het <a href="http://www.esvs.org/">European Society of Vascular Surgery</a>.<br>
